Professor Matthew Ojo: A Beautiful Tribute to a Remarkable Life
Some occasions call for more than beautiful spaces; they call for thoughtful expressions of love, honour and remembrance. The funeral celebration of Professor Matthew Ojo was one such occasion.
Our journey with the family began approximately six months before the event, giving us the opportunity to approach the project with careful planning and attention to detail.
Following the confirmation of the booking, our team travelled to Ife for an initial venue inspection. Accompanied by our Creative Director, production team and event planner, we assessed the venue, explored accommodation options and took measurements of the family house to understand the spaces and logistical requirements.
This initial assessment provided the foundation for our creative proposal. On a subsequent visit with the client, we presented our recommendations for transforming the 1,500-capacity hall into an elegant setting befitting the occasion.
The design direction evolved through a collaborative process with the family. From recommending more refined seating options to introducing VIP tables and luxurious centrepieces, every decision was carefully considered to achieve a cohesive and elevated look.
The Design & Transformation
Working with a palette of black and green, complemented by touches of gold, we created a contemporary setting with a distinctly luxurious feel.
The entrance experience was designed to make a memorable first impression. A beautifully styled welcome stand introduced guests to the space, while an extended entrance tunnel featuring flags, rich velvet draping and floral installations created a striking arrival experience.
A specially designed memory panel incorporated photographs of the deceased alongside an elegant reflective name feature, offering guests a visual tribute and a moment to remember the life being celebrated.
Inside the hall, the design continued with a feature wall, carefully coordinated seating and table arrangements, floral installations and a thoughtfully styled stage backdrop featuring the deceased’s photographs. Over the dance floor, a ceiling installation added another layer of visual interest, bringing the different elements together into one cohesive experience.
Behind the Scenes
For us, successful execution begins long before the event day. Approximately two months before the celebration, we returned to Ife for another venue inspection alongside a representative of the planning company to review the space and confirm the final details.
Our production team arrived in Ife on Tuesday, with logistics and loading commencing from Monday, ahead of the Thursday event. This preparation allowed us sufficient time to coordinate the installation and ensure that every element came together as planned.
A Memorable Outcome
The final transformation was met with great satisfaction from the family. They were particularly pleased with the outcome, expressing that the finished experience exceeded their expectations and delivered far more value than they had anticipated.
The positive feedback extended beyond the immediate family, with other guests and family members expressing their appreciation and making enquiries about our services. Most importantly, the family expressed their willingness to recommend Atmospheric to others.
